ABOUT US
Cherish Narok’s Children is a 501c3 non-profit set up to help a children’s home in Kenya’s Narok County, where the famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve is located. These 60 plus children are orphans or have family unable to care for them. We have teamed up with Amani Mara, an Ecolodge in the Mara, in our efforts to enrich the children’s lives by supporting and encouraging their education. Kenyan secondary public school is not free – it is, in fact rather costly. This help includes paying tuitions, hiring tutors to work with the children who struggle in school and purchasing computers, uniforms and other supplies. Without our help and that of the home where they live, the children could face life as cattle herders, early marriage, FGM or life on the streets, All donations go directly to the children. We do not pay administrative or promotional expenses from these donations. Those costs are underwritten. Thank you for your help and support. These children depend upon us.

Some improvements
CHERISH NAROK’S CHILDREN was able to close out 2022 with a small surplus. With the help of Amani Mara, we examined what needed the most help. The home had many areas needing attention, since with no income they had not been able to take care of these concerns. It was decided that the bathrooms were…

Christmas came again!
Yes, to the little girl who asked Shelina last year if Christmas came every year, we are proud to report that it appeared again. Thanks to our supporters, we were able to sponsor a shopping trip to Narok for all the children in the AIC Siyiapei Children’s Home. They were able to shop for shoes…

The Children Visit the Mara
During our visit from the US in 2022, Shelina at Amani Mara put together a surprise for us. She sent for 10 of the older children to come to Amani Mara for a quick visit. A van arrived to transport the children, but they did not know where they were going. They were told they…

A Heartfelt Thank You
There was a lot to take in on our annual trip to Kenya in September/October 2022. It was wonderful to see ALL the children really flourishing and happy. Hard to remember back to our first meeting just over three years ago. We had literally stumbled upon the children’s home and had intended to just drop…

For Regina – Love, Amy
Sometimes we stop and realize that our project is not just about providing educational and financial support to a group of children so far away. A recent request to bring a gift from a penpal in California to Kenya made me realize the personal connections, especially of the children, often outweigh our other efforts. Here…

A Saturday Tutor!
We learned from the tutors we had recently who evaluated the children to determine level of understanding, that many of the children were sadly not comprehending their schoolwork. This is probably due to the fact that the children are generally rescued around ages 9-10, placed in the Children’s Home and then entered into school at…

Harambee #2
It’s with great joy that I can report that the second fundraiser “Harambee” for the Kenyan childrens home was very successful. Thanks to generous donors and so many helpful workers, I think we raised enough to pay tuitions for the children attending high school, purchase their uniforms and supplies needed, and continue to pay the…

We build a library for the children
During our October 2021 visit, we learned that books, especially hardcover books, were extremely expensive and difficult to obtain in Kenya. Knowing that reading is so important, especially to children learning another language, we began to work on this project. It seemed a bit daunting, where to find the books and more importantly how to…
